Fall Arrivals...
Schools back in next week, and with the arrival of fall, comes fall scents! Our fall candle line is hitting the shelves in our store, and in our clients stores.
New Halloween SPOOK-TACULAR candles!
Scents like Hilda's Brew and Fresh from the Grave....
With fall also comes PUMPKIN! Pumpkin scents come in all forms, like Pumpkin Cheesekcake, Apple Butter and Pumpkin, and the classic Pumpkin Pie Filling. Apple Cider is also now out, as another seasonal scent favorite.

Our ladies are working harder then ever, coming up with new stuff!

Jessie just last week hand rolled cinnamon bun pillars! They are primitive, and coated with real cinnamon, dripping with a creamy icing... I love cinnamon buns!!
Sam has been busy collecting all the fall orders, and getting the candles made up to fill the orders! Our candle makers blend of the week is coming back next week, and Tasha is the first candle maker to test her scent skills. The task? We have over 100 fragrances in our shop. Some plain, some full body. Tasha is going to blend up a combination, and pour a few trays of votive candles. Colour matters!! Then put it in the store, and see what our customers think! Something tells me she will be using raisin bread scent, or caramel toffee in her blend, she's always hovering when we are pouring these scents! (Tasha is our packager, but she pours as well, when we need more hands on deck!)
Lise has been a basket case! Really!!! She has been super busy making up our gift baskets! She concentrated on fall candle baskets, and they will be shipped out in the next few days.
Michelle has been busy in our Sears store. THE WISHBOOK IS HERE!! Sears famous Fall and Holiday catalogue came out on Aug 28th, and I think we are handing out about a hundred a day right now!
Beth is on the mend from her foot surgury, (and summer off) and is expected to be back in a week or 2... and boy do I have a to do list for her!! (hehe) Just kidding, we'll go easy on her, she will be busy in the store, putting together displays, helping with the dry cleaners and Sears Catalogue desk, with all the wishbook orders.
Me? Fundraisers are about to start up. In fact, our first round of brochures shipped out today to some of the schools who booked the program before school let out for summer. We have about 30 schools booked, and are planning to add another 20 to the schedule for this fall. Our program is super easy to run, no start up costs, and gives the schools a 50% return. I also have to hire our fall students in, and get the training started. Our temporary students help with cleaning, packaging and prep work for our candle makers. most students start mid September, and finish up the first of December.

Keep an eye on the website, some super cute fall and holiday candles will be posted this weekend!!

Chow for now!

Been a little while guys, very sorry!! It's been very hot, and very sticky here in Essex Ontario. What have we been up to at Crafty??

Christmas Candles!!
That's right, we finished up the Fall & Holiday 2010 designs. Let me tell you, it's pretty hard to think about candy canes, gingerbread and Christmas trees when it's 32 degrees out!! For our US friends, that's about 95 degrees! But we are done, and the catalogues are out to all our wholesale customers. We have been getting orders already, so we will start pouring up the candles in about a week.

Samantha is our newest addition to the Crafty Family. She's wonderful, and a natural to candle making. She has picked up the techniques beautifully, and is showing talent! She made some beer gel candles up to replace the ones we sold out of this week, and her beers look better then mine! Way to go Sam!! I'm sure they won't last long again...

Take out coffee and tea candles are new, and so cute! The labels on the containers are fantastic, and "Crafty" with an ingredients list on the back. Inside is a glass containing the richly scented candle. Other new additions are going to be added to the website this week as well, keep checking back.

Happy Summer everyone!!

Christine

New Scents!!!

Good Day Folks!
I love it when we get new fragrances in! We test new scents all the time, and most don't make the cut, and our perfumer will re-blend and re-blend, till it's just right. Then when the final scent arrives, I love to pour it, blend it, and create interesting candles with it.

How do we choose a new scent?
We start by listening to our customers. People ask for certain fragrances all the time, and we listen! We call our perfumer's and request sample runs. So, for example, we just got in a fantastic peanut butter scent. It started a few months ago when we needed a "nut" type of fragrance, mainly for blending. (Think peanut butter banana, peanut butter & jam, chocolate peanut butter....) When the samples came in, we got a few to try. We first did the "sniff" test, does the oil smell good? If so, we put it into wax. Some fragrances smell great in oil form, but not so great after they are blended with hot wax. After the candle is made, we burn it! How strong is it, did it take colour well..... did it burn well..... If not, we start again.

New Scents Just Arrived!
Peanut Butter---I LOVE this one, it smells like a jar of creamy peanut butter. We poured it straight, and it's in the store, and tomorrow I plan on blending it with a few other scents!
Iced Tea---So cool and fresh. A tall glass of iced tea in the summer always hits the spot. In our candle shop, we keep iced tea crystals around and all it to our bottles of water. This scent will blend really well with berries, mint, and citrus fragrances.
Brown Sugar and Oatmeal---warm oatmeal cookies fresh from the oven! This scent has a hint of spices in it, but it's pretty heavy on the oats, butter and brown sugar. This scent will make your home smell heavenly!

Give these new scents a try, and watch for many more to come! Have a request, let us know!
Cheers,
Christine :)
